Tab Windows

Another tab, live, fitted inside a slide or page.

A Tab Window shows another tab of the same document, live, inside a slide or page. Draw the diagram on its own tab, put a window onto it on a slide, and the slide follows every change you (or a collaborator) make to the diagram. There is no copy to paste again when the diagram changes.

Take the tour

The first time you select a tab window, a small Tour toolbar appears beside its toolbar. Press Play for a short tour on your own window: the tab it shows live, Open (or Choose a Tab on an empty window), its menu, and resizing it. Press the cross if you would rather not; either way it is not offered again. To be offered it again, open Settings, then Tours, open Element Tours and switch Tab Window Tour back on.

Adding a Tab Window

In Pages mode, open Media in the palette and pick Tab Window. Tap the page to drop one, or drag to draw it at the size you want.

Press Choose a Tab in the window and pick the tab to show. The list holds every tab of the document but the one you are on and the Plan tabs (Boards, Sheets and Dashboards).

The window draws that tab's content zoomed to fit, centred on the tab's own background. Resize the window and the drawing follows.

Animations play in the window too: a box that bounces, a sticky note that flutters and an arrow whose flow runs all move inside the window as they do on their own tab. A few effects that need the canvas itself (a pulse ring, a trace light, words that type themselves in) show still in the window. With Reduce Motion on, the window holds still, like the canvas.

To show a different tab later, open the window's menu, then Tab Window, and pick another under Shows.

Opening the Tab

Hover over a window (or select it) and press Open in its top-right corner to go to the tab it shows. The menu's Tab Window section has the same Open row.

What a Window Shows While It Waits

  • Loading Flow… while the tab's content is on its way (a tab's content arrives when it is first shown).
  • Couldn't load Flow. with Retry if it didn't arrive.
  • Nothing on Flow yet. for a tab with nothing on it.
  • This tab isn't available. when the tab has been deleted, or isn't shared with you.

A window inside the tab it shows is drawn as a frame with its tab's name, never the tab again, so windows never repeat inside each other.

Exporting

A PDF, PNG or SVG export draws each window's tab inside it, just as on screen (see Exporting and Presenting Pages). Thumbnails, such as the Contents list and the Slide Deck, show the window as a frame named for its tab.

Who Can Do What

An Editor places windows and chooses what they show. A Participant or Viewer sees them and can open the tab a window shows.
