Most diagrams are saved to livediagram's servers so you can reach them from any device and share them. Offline Mode is the opposite choice: a diagram saved only in the browser you made it in, that never touches the server at all. It suits private, local-first work, or simply wanting a diagram that physically never leaves your machine.
Creating an offline diagram
Offline Mode is off by default and chosen per diagram, so you can keep normal diagrams and offline ones side by side.
- On the New Diagram screen, step through the wizard to the Settings step (the third step, after Template and Theme) and turn on "Save Offline, This Browser Only", then click Create.
- The diagram is written to your browser's local storage and opens like any other. An Offline badge next to its name, and an Offline tag in your Explorer list, mark it so you always know which diagrams are local-only.
An offline diagram is not synced and not backed up. It lives only in this browser: clearing your site data, or the browser reclaiming storage, will delete it. Keep anything important on the cloud, or export a copy.
What's different
An offline diagram is a normal diagram: every editor feature works, including shapes, arrows, layers, tabs, themes, undo/redo, and export. Only the features that need the server are unavailable, because there's no server copy to power them:
- Sharing needs a diagram on the server, so opening Share on an offline diagram prompts you to sync it to your account first. Embeds are unavailable for the same reason.
- Live collaboration and teams don't apply; an offline diagram is yours alone.
- The AI assistant works while you're online (it reads your current canvas), but not with no connection.
- Images you add are stored inside the diagram, so it stays fully local.
Moving to and from your account
You can change your mind at any time, from the diagram's menu in the Explorer.
- Sync Diagram uploads an offline diagram to the cloud. It becomes a normal diagram, shareable and reachable from your other devices, and the local-only copy is removed.
- Take Offline does the reverse: it downloads a cloud diagram into this browser and then removes it from your account and every other device. Because that deletes the server copy for good, we ask you to confirm first.
"Take Offline" is deliberate and irreversible on the server side: once a diagram is offline it exists only in the browser you took it offline in. If it was shared, taking it offline also revokes the share links.
